Nepenthes villosa

Encyclopedia : N : NE : NEP : Nepenthes villosa

Nepenthes villosa (Latin: villosus = hairy) is a species of tropical pitcher plant belonging to the genus Nepenthes. It grows at higher altitudes than any other Bornean Nepenthes species, at an elevation of 2400-3200 m. N. villosa can be found growing in mossy and sub-alpine forest on Mount Kinabalu and neighbouring Mount Tambuyukon. It is one of the most famous plants in the genus, with the most notable feature being a highly-developed and intricate peristome. The plant is most closely related to N. edwardsiana and N. macrophylla.

Two natural hybrids have been recorded: N. × harryana (N. edwardsiana × N. villosa) and N. × kinabaluensis (N. rajah × N. villosa).
