Neues Deutschland (New Germany) is a German newspaper. In the German Democratic Republic, it was the party newspaper of the Socialist Unity Party (SED), and as such served as one of the party's most important organs. More yet than the other newspapers in the GDR, not only did it endorse all policy decisions of the government, changing its opinion in unison at every turn, but it also sought to elevate the prestige of each member of the leadership, perhaps most importantly Erich Honecker.
It still has a socialist outlook, and is perceived as both politically and economically close to the Linkspartei, which is a direct heir to the SED, owning the publishing house and printing presses.
