New Inn
Encyclopedia : N : NE : NEW : New Inn
New Inn is a suburb of Pontypool, Torfaen in South Wales. It is considered to be relatively affluent and, along with nearby Griffithstown, forms the wealthiest part of northern Torfaen.
Unlike other Pontypool suburbs, New Inn does not have a central village area as such. The Highway is the main thoroughfare through the town which starts near Pontypool Park at the northern end and finishes near Cwmbran at the southern end. The Highway includes two general stores; a computer shop; florist and a fish and chip shop.
New Inn has a small selection of public houses (most notably the Lower New Inn, which is popular with young people and the Greenlawn Social Club which has a distinctly older clientele). New Inn is also home to a main branch fire station on New Road and is home to Panteg Rugby Club.
New Inn is the only area of Torfaen to appear on the Welsh version of the Monopoly board.
It does not have a Welsh name, although Torfaen County Borough Council have used 'Y Tarfarn Newydd' on more than one occasion on leaflets.
