The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) is a regulatory agency established by the State of New Jersey in 1971 to oversee the Meadowlands Sports Complex. Its first chairman was David A. "Sonny" Werblin.
As of 2004, the NJSEA's purview has expanded to include Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey; the Atlantic City, New Jersey Convention Center and Boardwalk Hall, the long-time home of the Miss America Scholarship Pageant; and The Wildwoods Convention Center in Wildwood, New Jersey. The NJSEA also hosts the Sports Hall of Fame of New Jersey at the Continental Airlines Arena.
In addition, the NJSEA built the New Jersey State Aquarium at Camden, and NJSEA funds were used to renovate various athletic facilities at Rutgers University. The NJSEA also contributed to the construction of the Meadowlands Environment Center in Lyndhurst, just across Berry's Creek from the sports complex.
