Next is a dating television show produced by Kallissa Productions airing on MTV.
Every show consists of one or more dates and each date features a contestant and five daters. The daters are hidden from the contestant on an RV which follows the contestant's van. The date begins with the contestant and one of the daters. At any point during the date, the contestant can say "next" and the dater is eliminated. The date is suspended, the dater returns to the RV and another dater is sent to continue the date. Eliminated daters receive a monetary prize equal to a dollar for every minute they lasted on the date.
At any point the contestant can give the current dater a choice between a second date or the same monetary prize (one dollar for every minute on the date) given to an eliminated dater. Usually, the money is substantial as most contestants allow for some time before giving the dater the choice, although this is not always the case. The date ends when all daters have been "nexted" or when a dater is given the choice between money or a second date.
It is not uncommon for the contestant to "next" a dater at first sight, sending the dater back with a single dollar. The contestant can also attempt to avoid the disgrace of being turned down for a second date in favor of a large monetary prize, by asking for a second date early. On one episode a contestant nexted the first four daters and asked the last dater for a second date within the first minute. Faced with the choice of a dollar or a date with the contestant she just met, the dater opted for the second date. There are gay editions of the show as well, featuring all males or all females.
Much like another Kallissa Productions show, Date My Mom, short comment clips from contestants and daters are shown throughout the show. Comments are usually one-liners loaded with sexual innuendo.
The voicover at the beginning of the show is as follows: "Bad dates never end, or do they? You're going on 5 dates. If the first one sucks, just say 'Next.' Kick them to the curb and start over with someone new. Don't feel bad for the daters who get the boot, they'll get cash for every minute they last. The one who makes it to the end will choose: either go on a second date or take the money and run. Careful what you do, cause you may be Next."
