Nicky English

Nicholas "Nicky" English is a former Irish sportsman who played hurling for Tipperary in Ireland. He is a former forward on the Tipperary senior hurling team.
Successful as both a player and a manager Nicky English won his first All-Ireland with the Tipperary minor hurlers in 1980. The following year he picked up a winner's medal with the Under-21 team. In 1988 he won a National League medal and captained the Tipperary team that lost the Senior All-Ireland Hurling Final. English won his first senior medal in 1989 with a victory over Antrim. In that game English scored a modern day record of 2-12. A second All-Ireland winner's medal was to follow in 1991. A winner of 6 All-Star awards and a Hurler of the Year award in 1989, English also won 2 Railway Cup medals in 1984 and 1985. English was also appointed manager of the Tipperary hurlers in 1998, serving until 2002. During this time he guided the team to win Munster and All-Ireland titles.
