Encyclopedia : N : NI : NIK : Nikos Xilouris
Nikos Xylouris (Greek Νίκος Ξυλούρης, 7 July, 1936 - 8 February, 1980) was a Greek composer and singer from Crete and also the older brother of another great musician of Cretan music, Antonis Xilouris or Psarantonis. He was part of the movement that brought down the Greek military Junta of 1967. His songs and music captured and described better than anything else the Greek psyche and demeanor.
He died in 1980 from cancer (brain tumor).
Now the only remains of his family in Crete is his nephew, and his nephew's family. His grand nephew, also named Niko Xilouries, is a musician. Only 14 years old, he has booked concerts and plays various instruments.
