Nin10doh (sometimes referred to as #nintendo) is an online community based around Nintendo. One of the distinguishing features of this community is that it is based around a very popular IRC channel, as opposed to most websites, which are based around their web interface. Besides the chatroom, Nin10doh features a blog for members, a forum, an IRC quotes database, and a wiki.
The IRC Channel
Nin10doh's IRC channel is #nintendo on the ChatSpike IRC network. Users of this channel don't just discuss Nintendo (in fact, some people have said they rarely do)-- they often discuss other subjects such as programming, non-Nintendo video games, music, and real life (but most of them shun the latter). The IRC channel was originally founded as a "24/7 chat for NSiders" because the live chats of the official Nintendo website were only open at scheduled times, but instead of being solely for NSiders or Nintendo forums users, the channel has evolved into a general discussion channel. There are also three other channels for #nintendo goers-- #nintendo-staff (for staff only), #nintendo-wifi (for Nintendo Wifi related discussion), and #nintendo-uno (for playing Uno on the #nintendo bot.).
#nintendo's IRC Bot, TEC
#nintendo is complimented by an IRC Bot called TEC (formerly typobot -- which was in reference to the author of the bot and owner of the community, typobox43.). This bot has many features, the most notable of which are the following:
- @postcount -- Used as @postcount . This command receives various statistics about the specified NSider, including the post count (obviously), online status, last seen date, and rank.
- @lastpost -- Used as @lastpost . This function gets the last post made by the specified NSider and displays it in the channel.
- @postinfo -- Used as @postinfo . This function does the same as @lastpost, but instead of getting a user's last post, it will receive the specified post from NSider, regardless of whether or not it's the author's latest post.
The Website
Nin10doh's website has many parts:
- The Index -- This page links to all of the other pages and also lets the user manage his or her preferences.
- The Forums -- The second method of communication for #nintendo'rs. This is used far less than the channel. It runs on Invision Power Board.
- * The Arcade -- Part of the forums, it contains various flash-based games that are part of the IBP Arcade package.
- The Quotes DB -- Where registered and logged in users can vote on, view, and submit IRC quotes from any of the Nin10doh channels.
- The Wiki -- The official wiki of Nin10doh where most of the information relating to the community is compiled.
- The Blog -- A blogging system created completely by typobox43 (the site's owner and coder) for Nin10doh members to post their thoughts.
