Nipissing University is a small liberal arts university located in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, on a 720 acre (2.9 km²) farm site overlooking Lake Nipissing. Founded in 1967 as a federated school of Laurentian University, Nipissing became an independent institution in 1992. The university's unique character is defined by its location in Northern Ontario, a large faculty of education program with one-third of the total student enrollment, and shared facilities with Canadore College. Nipissing offers a variety of programs in the arts, sciences, business, and education. The university has 3400 full-time students and 3300 part-time students.

The university also has a satellite campus located in Bracebridge, Ontario, in the heart of the Muskoka area.

The fictional Elizabeth Patterson, from Lynn Johnston's For Better or For Worse comic strip, attended Nipissing.

The university is represented in Canadian Interuniversity Sport by the Nipissing Lakers.

The university is noted for its Faculty of Education which is well-regarded throughout Ontario for its ITeach program. Nipissing education students are known for their enthusiasm as well as the many clubs, groups and activities they partake in. Recently, the biology department has started to become more respected as a location for research. Also, the head of the math department is the well respected topologist Dr. Murat Tuncalli.
