School of Nisibis Nisibis (Nusaybin, eastern Turkey), was a persian city where a school of Christian learning and Biblical exigesis was founded at an early date (c.a. 500 AD). Cassiodorus recognized the existence of this thriving school in the introduction to his Institutiones. The school emphasized and relied heavily on the teachings of the Antiochene scholar and father Theodore of Mopsuestia. For this reason it is sometimes called the Nestorian School of Nisibis.
