Nixdorf Computer AG was a computer company founded by Heinz Nixdorf in 1968. With headquarters in Paderborn, Germany, it became the fourth largest computer company in Europe and a worldwide specialist in banking systems. Its main product was the 886x family of BNC or Banking Network Computer which ran a proprietary operating system. Other products include point of sale or POS systems and digital phone switching systems. In 1990, it was acquired by Siemens and renamed into Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme. Present day company Wincor-Nixdorf is its closest incarnation.
