Nlaka'pamux

The Nlaka'pamux (commonly called "the Thompson", and also Thompson River Salish, Thompson Salish, Thompson River) are an indigenous First Nations/Native American people of Salish ethnicity in southern British Columbia and northern Washington. The Nlaka'pamux are known in their own language as nɬeʔképmx. Frontier-era histories and maps transliterate this name as Hakamaugh; they were also known as the Couteau or "Knife" Indians.
In Canada the Nlaka'pamux form the Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council, a mutual affiliation of five Nlaka'pamux First Nations.
Culture
The Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council is only 5 of the Nlaka'pamux Communities that make up the Nlaka'pamux. There are 16 different communities that make up the Nlaka'pamux Nation. These communities are Ashcroft Indian Band, Oregon Jack Creek Indian Band, Cook's Ferry Indian Band, Shackan Indian Band, Nooaitch Indian Band, Lower Nicola Indian Band, Upper Nicola Indian Band, Coldwater Indian Band, Nicomen Indian Band, Lytton First Nation, Skuppah Indian Band, Kanaka Bar Indian Band, Siska Indian Band, Boothroyd Indian Band, Boston Bar Indian Band and Spuzzum Indian Band. These communities are considered to be Nlaka'pamux. Some of the communities also affiliate themselves with other nations such as Okanagan.Language
The Nlaka'pamux speak an Interior Salishan language named nɬeʔkepmxcín.
