No Kum-Sok

Encyclopedia : N : NO : NOK : No Kum-Sok

No Kum Sok was a lieutenant in the North Korean Air Force who defected to South Korea. In 1953, he flew his MiG-15 to Kimpo air base in South Korea. He wanted to get away from the "red deceit." He received a $100,000 reward, which he had not heard about, and later immigrated to the United States. He graduated from the University of Delaware, married and became a citizen of that country. He was joined in the U.S. by his mother, who had earlier been evacuated from North Korea to South Korea.

He also wrote a book, A MiG-15 to Freedom (ISBN 0786402105) about his defection and previous life in North Korea.
