No Sleep 'til Hammersmith
Encyclopedia : N : NO : NOS : No Sleep 'til Hammersmith
No Sleep 'til Hammersmith was Motörhead's first live album. The recordings were made at three shows: (Leeds, March 28, 1981 and Newcastle March 29 and March 30, 1981). The album was issued following the success of their St. Valentine's Day Massacre EP It went straight to Number One on the UK charts, marking the band's most successful period. A single, using the album's final track, "Motörhead", was released, reaching number 6 in the UK charts. Although it is their most successful live album, lead singer Lemmy Kilmister didn't like it at first, because it was released without the band's permission, while they were on their first US tour.
The band's second live album is designated the brother of No Sleep 'til Hammersmith and is called No Sleep At All.
This album was famously parodied by the Beastie Boys on the Licensed to Ill album for the track "No Sleep Till Brooklyn".
