Nolan Schaefer (born January 15, 1980) in Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan Canada is a goaltender for the National Hockey League (NHL) San Jose Sharks organization. He is currently playing for the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Nolan was selected by San Jose Sharks in fifth round (166th overall) of National Hockey League entry draft, June 24, 2000. He followed in his brother Peter Schaefer's footsteps and became the second person from Yellow Grass to be drafted and play in the NHL.

Nolan signed a contract with San Jose, August 19, 2003, and spent three seasons playing with the San Jose Sharks AHL affilated Cleveland Barons. On August 15, 2005 he was re-signed to one-year contract as restricted free agent by San Jose.

Nolan would end up making his first NHL appearance beign called up to replace the injured Vesa Toskala on October 26, 2005. He would end up playing 7 games in total with very respectable statistics. He currently bounces back and forth between San Jose and Cleveland serving as the third string goal tender. Nolan did not see play during the Sharks 2006 Stanley Cup playoff run.

Nolan Schaefer featured as an answer on the January 11, 2006 episode of Jeopardy. Cleveland Athletes for $600: “Nolan Schaefer of Yellow Grass, Sask., and Glenn Olson of Port McNeil, B.C., play this sport for the Cleveland Barons”.

Stopped 14 of 16 Utah shooters in an AHL Record 16-Round shootout win on 12/03/04 (also set AHL record for 14-saves in shootout)

Broke Barons franchise record for career shutouts with 5, his fifth on 01/08/05 V. Grand Rapids (2-0, 33-saves)

12-27-05 First shutout of the 2005-2006 season, his 6th in the AHL, a spectacular 28 save performance for a 3-0 win over San Antonio

12-29-05 Records his 2nd shutout of the season, in back-to-back games, with a 2-0 win over San Antonio. First goalie in franchise history to have shutouts in back-to-back games. Also had an assist on the game winning goal by Garrett Stafford.

4-2-06 Strong 42 save performance in a SOL to Iowa, 2-1

4-15-06 Played last game as a Cleveland Baron. Came in relief of Dmitri Patzold, allowing 4 goals in a 8-1 loss to Manitoba.
