Nora Kaye

Nora Kaye (January 17, 1920-February 28, 1987) was an American ballerina, who was also called the Duse of Dance, after actress, Eleonora Duse. Kaye was born Nora Koreff to Russian parents in Brooklyn but later changed her Russian surname to a more American sounding name. In 1936, she joined the American Ballet, directed by George Balanchine. She later became a member of the Radio City Music Hall corps de ballet and danced in several Broadway shows. Her performance in Antony Tudor's Pillar of Fire (1942) vaulted her to the rank of Ballerina.
She married Isaac Stern in November 1948, which ended in divorce. She married Herbert Ross in August 1959.
Kaye died in Los Angeles of cancer, in 1987.
