Norma Cenva

Encyclopedia : N : NO : NOR : Norma Cenva

Norma Cenva is a fictional character from the Dune. She plays a larger role in the Legends of Dune trilogy, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Norma Cenva is the daughter of Supreme Sorceress Zufa Cenva of Rossak. Despite being barely four feet tall, Norma is a gifted mathematician. Famous Poritrin scientist Tio Holtzman invited her to be his assistant. Despite being against slavery, which was common on Poritrin, Norma lived out most of her life there because she liked working with little distraction. She also cared little that Holtzman took credit for much of her work.

While being tortured by the the Titan Xerxes her latent psychic abilities were unleashed, destroying Xerxes and six cymeks. Using these powers she reworked her own body into a more beautiful, appealing one based on the many women of her ancestry.

Norma and her lover Aurelius Venport had five children, her most successful child being Adrien Venport.

Norma invented anti-gravity suspensors, glowglobes, and Holtzman Engines which enabled instantaneous space travel, and eventually founded the Spacing Guild and became the first Navigator, using massive doses of concentrated melange to presciently perceive space/time, which allowed for safe interstellar space travel.

Despite being the inventor of the Guild ship, Norma credited the invention to her lover Aurelius as her last gift to him.

Norma Cenva appears in God Emperor of Dune, by Frank Herbert, when Leto Atreides II, the God Emperor, a long distance descendant of Norma Cenva, is talking about her, claiming that he had "lived" Norma Cenva.
