North Carolina General Assembly

The North Carolina General Assembly is the state legislature of the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is made up of the North Carolina House of Representatives (formerly the North Carolina House of Commons) and the North Carolina Senate, which have 120 and 50 members, respectively. Senators and representatives serve 2-year terms. As of the 2002 election, they are elected from single-member districts; prior to this, some districts elected multiple members.
The General Assembly meets in the state capital of Raleigh, North Carolina. It met in the capitol building until 1963, when the legislature relocated to the new North Carolina State Legislative Building.
