History
The suburb of Nazimabad (Urdu: ناظم آباد) in Liaquatabad Town was developed in the early 1950's for settlement by Muslim refugees from India. The suburb was named after Khawaja Nazimuddin who was the second Governor-General of Pakistan, and later the second Prime Minister of Pakistan as well. From the late 1950's, a northern extension of Nazimabad was developed as a residential area for federal government employees and came to be known as North Nazimabad. However, the capital of Pakistan was transferred from Karachi to Islamabad in the 1960's.The federal government introduced local government reforms in the year 2000, which eliminated the previous third tier of government (administrative divisions) and raised the fourth tier (districts) to become the new third tier. The effect in Karachi was the dissolution of the former Karachi Division and the merger of it's five districts to form a new Karachi City-District with eighteen autonomous constituent towns including North Nazimabad Town.
