Northeast Airlines Flight 823 was a DC-6 departing from New York City's LaGuardia Airport on February 1, 1957. It crashed on Rikers Island on takeoff in a snowstorm when the pilot failed to maintain course and the plane hit trees. 21 passengers of the 101 passengers and crew on board were killed.
