Route 2 is part of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia's system of Trunk Highways. The route runs from Halifax to Fort Lawerence on the New Brunswick border .Until the 1960s, Route 2 was the Halifax area's most important highway link to other provinces, and was part of a longer Route 2 which ended in Windsor, Ontario. The nearby highways 102 and 104 now carry most inter-city traffic in the area, while Route 2 serves regional and local traffic.

Route description

Route 2 begin on Connaught Ave and Windsor Street in Halifax. The route takes the Bedford Highway, which follows the western shore of the Bedford Basin, to the community of Bedford. From there, Route 2 veers northeast through the suburbs of Waverley, Fall River and Enfield, where it crosses the Shubenacadie River. The highway follows the river's west bank to the village of Shubenacadie, then continues northeast through Stewiacke and Brookfield to Truro.

Route 2 leaves Truro to the west, crossing the Salmon River on Highway 102. The route continues west along the Glooscap Trail, following the north shore of Cobequid Bay through several small villages to the town of Parrsboro. It then turns north through the Cobequid Mountains, along the west bank of River Hebert before turning northeast to reach the Southampton River, which Route 2 follows to the town of Springhill. Route 2 turns northwest from Springhill through Amherst to Fort Lawerence , where it runs with the Highway 104 and Trans Canada Highway to the New Brunswick border.[link]
