Number of the Beast (numerology)

Encyclopedia : N : NU : NUM : Number of the Beast (numerology)

666, the value most commonly associated with the number of the beast, has several interesting numerological properties. This has led to supernatural speculation among some, while many mathematicians believe any interesting phenomena to simply be coincidence.

Derivation from Primes

666 can be written as the sum of the squares of the first seven prime numbers:

[ 2^2 + 3^2 + 5^2 + 7^2 + 11^2 + 13^2 + 17^2 = 666]

Summation of the First 36 Natural Numbers

666 can be written as the sum of the first 36 natural numbers:

[ 1 + 2 + 3 + ... + 34 + 35 + 36 = 666]

\" It can be shown that

[\sin (666^\circ) = - \frac \varphi ]
where φ is the
golden ratio.

This can be paraphrased by the humorous quip, "The sign of the devil is the opposite of good, but only half as strong."
