Nyando District

Nyando district is a fairly new district which broke away from Kisumu District in Nyanza Province in 1998. Its capital is in a small town called Awasi 30kms from Kisumu bordering the Rift Valley Province. The district is divided into three major divisions namely Nyando (Awasi), Nyakach and Muhoroni. Coincidentially each of the three districts is a civil constituency. Other towns in the district are Ahero and Chemelil. The district is named after the Nyando River.
