O. P. Nayyar was born Omkar Prasad Nayyar in Lahore in 16 January, 1926. He was an Indian music director known for his peppy numbers. He started his film music with the background score for 1949 film Kaneez, followed by the music for 1952 film Aasman. Guru Dutt's Aar Paar in 1954 was his first success, which lead to a successful partnership with Guru Dutt in Mr. & Mrs. '55 as well as C.I.D. He worked extensively with Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi.He is renown for the fact that he never worked with Lata Mangeshkar. This despite Lata being the top singer during the time OP made music. He helped the careers of Geeta Dutt and Asha Bhosle by focussing on them instead of Lata.

Some of his popular Hindi musicals are :

Tumsa Nahi Dekha, Kashmir Ki Kali, Mere Sanam, Ek Musafir Ek Haseena.

After the early 1970's he faded despite an attempt at a comeback in the 1990's.
