The Older Women's Muslim Community (Arabic: مكان الاجتماع لأجل نساء مسلمة أرشدة. ) is a health club for older Muslim women, especially those living in Iran and Kuwait.

History

First founded in 1887, in the town of Bandar Lengeh (although residents of Bastak also claim this honour), the first OWMC was originally a unique variety of mosque for women. The English name was clearly modelled off that of the YMCA, and as with the YMCA the OWMC gradually became more of a secular institution.

Services

Originally being a mosque, the OWMC grew into a health club and meeting place for women. Most OWMC offer baths and small cafés, although the larger OWMC may also include some gymnastic activities.
