Oakland Technical High School, in Oakland, California, known locally as Oakland Tech, is a public high school located on 4351 Broadway in North Oakland. It is one of six comprehensive public high school campuses in Oakland. Founded in 1917, it is the alma mater of Clint Eastwood, Rickey Henderson, Abbas Milani, Huey P. Newton, the Pointer Sisters, Marshawn Lynch and Leon Powe.
Students at Oakland Technical High School have the option enrolling in one of the school's academies, which operate as small subsets of the school. Students take one or two classes within their academies, and the rest of the day in normal classes. Currently Oakland Tech has Engineering, Health, and Computer academies.
The school building is a local landmark. It strongly resembles the main science building at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During the 1970s when many California schools were being demolished and rebuilt for earthquake safety, the Tech main building was declared too historic to tear down. Instead they gutted it and rebuilt it from the inside while preserving the historic outside.
A verse of the school's fight song, composed in the 1920s though today largely unknown:
- Hail, all hail, to Technical we sing
Hail, all hail, our honest tributes bring
Our alma mater be our guide, and ever in our hearts abide
Hail, all hail, to Technical we sing
"Oh Technical, to thee we raise our song of loyalty and praise. To thee, our guide through high school days, we pledge our faith anew. Thy name is written on our hearts in gold and purple hue. Thy richest gifts, oh Technical, our friendships fine and true."
