Oakwood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,249 at the 2000 census.
Geography
Oakwood is located at (41.007064, -80.376461)[Geographic references#1GR1].According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²). 6.6 km² (2.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.39% is water.
Demographics
As of the census[Geographic references#2GR2] of 2000, there were 2,249 people, 949 households, and 664 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 339.2/km² (877.0/mi²). There were 978 housing units at an average density of 147.5/km² (381.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.66% White, 3.82% African American, 0.13% Asian, 0.40% from other races, and 0.98% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.76% of the population.There were 949 households out of which 20.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0% were non-families. 27.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.84.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 17.1% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 25.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females there were 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.9 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $32,202, and the median income for a family was $40,565. Males had a median income of $31,121 versus $21,550 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $16,930. About 4.4% of families and 6.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.2% of those under age 18 and 5.3% of those age 65 or over.
