Oda Hidekatsu

Encyclopedia : O : OD : ODA : Oda Hidekatsu

(1567-1585) Oda Hidekatsu, the fourth son of the famed Oda Nobunaga. Hidekatsu at a young age was adopted by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. At the time of Nobunaga's death in 1582, Hidekatsu was currently at Kojima in Bizen Province. Hidekatsu also assisted Hideyoshi during the Battle of Yamasaki, leading up to the defeat of Akechi Mitsuhide.

During Hidekatsu's father's funeral, Hidekatsu held Nobunaga's mortuary tablet (Ihai). Afterwards, Hidekatsu received Kaneyama Castle in Tanba, serving Hideyoshi also during the Battle of Komaki. Hidekatsu suddenly died during the year of 1585. Many believe that Hidekatsu was killed on the orders of Hideyoshi. Hidekatsu is sometimes confused with Hashiba Hidekatsu, who is an adopted son of Hideyoshi.
