Oddballz is a virtual pet game created by PF Magic in 1996 as a wacky alternative to their Dogz and Catz titles. It comes with a free Starter Kit demo for the players' friends, screensaver, Oddballz Web Fun Pack of clipart and seven of the thirteen available official breedz.

The 13 official breedz include Honker, Quadrapus, Norvil, Zott, Jester, Snowbo, Walret, Dynaroo, Modvark, Lips, Skorch, 102 and Grinnz. The first twlelve of the Oddball eggz are in tray 1 and then Grinnz, the thirteenth Oddball, is in tray 2.

The game has a lot of toyz to play with but be careful, some of the toyz in the Toy Module are disciplinary or can be used as a discipline tool. The robo pogo, for example, has two likenesses: In its play form Norvil likes it but in its discipline form - the spiky pogo - all the Oddballz (excluding Quadrapus) dislike its painful spikes.

Third party developers produce additional breedz, playscenes, liquifood flavours and developer tools for the games.

Toyz

In the Oddballz game, toyz are objects that oddballz can play with and include:

Liquifood - gelatinous food for oddballz
Grubz - worm-like creatures that oddballz love to eat as food, they can be used as treats when training oddballz
Loco-pop - candy for oddballz which causes them to become "loco", or crazy for several seconds
Seismo ball - used to discipline oddballz by dropping it on them and causing them to explode
Robo Pogo (and its alternative, the spiky pogo) - pogo stick
Sno-blaster - used to discipline oddballz by shooting it at them and freezing them temporarily
Transformer - mutates oddballz into other animals
Pop Box - plays music that oddballz like to sing and dance to
Gravitron - attracts all other toys and oddballz to it and causes oddballz to decrease in size
Atomic Ball - ball that oddballz love to chase. When held over an oddballz, it increases in size.

Other objects that the player interacts with are:

Light switch - pull on this to turn the lights on and off and see how the creatures behave in the dark
Flavorizer - select colors and textures and use the Flavorizer to color liquifood, oddballz, grubz and the loco-pop. Each oddball has flavours and colours which it particularly likes or dislikes: favourite, poison and allergic. If you give your oddball food of these flavours or you colour them in these colours then you may see the oddballz affected; they may explode, shrink, grow or change colour etc.
Camera - press this button or "space" on the keyboard to take a snapshot of your oddballz and save it in .bmp format.

Development

As with Petz, Oddballz are made up of ballz joined by linez. The breedz are distributed as either a .egg file or a .odd and a .odx pair of files. Once installed they are stored within the game's Incubator as eggz. Oddballz can then be edited using a hex editor or an unfinished third party application known as the Egg Scrambler.
