Encyclopedia : O : OG : OGA : Ogasawara Tadazane

Ogasawara Tadazane (1596 - 1667) was a descendant of the Ogasawara house hold, he became daimyo of Kokura after his father and elder brother died in the Osaka Summer Campaign. He was also the lord who employed Miyamoto Musashi's adopted son, Iori. Iori and Musashi fought against the Christians in the Shimabara uprising under Tadazane's army which ended only after a total and complete massacre.

The 3rd Tokugawa Shogun, Iemitsu, then banned the practice of Christianity throughout Japan and restricted foreign trades to certain countries and items. The Dutch were the only Europeans that were allowed to trade with Japan for over 250 years until Commodore Perry's arrival.

His children were Nagayasu (b.1618-d.1667), Naganobu (b.1631-d.?), and Tadamasa.
