Ogbomoso City (also spelled Ogbomosho) is located in the present day Oyo state in south west Nigeria, and was founded in the 17th century by Warriors to defend Yorubaland from the conquering Fulani Jihadists. Its population is 1.1 million.
Most Ogbomoso people are of the Yoruba ethnic group, the largest single ethnic group in Nigeria. Ogbomoso has a university, called the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, and a local television station, NTA Ogbomoso, which is a branch of the national network.
Ogbomoso Sports Stadium, with a capacity of 10,000, is the homeground of a second division professional football league team.
The headquarters of the Theological Seminary of Nigerian Baptist Convention and a hospital belonging to the Baptist Medical Centre are in the city.
Yams, cassava, grain, tobacco and cotton, amongst others, are some of the notable agricultural produces of the region.
