Oglethorpe Academy, now called Oglethorpe Charter School, was founded by cook-book author, Martha Nesbit, in 1998. It is located in Savannah, GA, and is one of the top charter schools in the U.S.

Founding of O.C.S.

Martha Nesbit, founder, was upset about education in Georgia, and got together with some friends from church, and asked (this is notin exact words) "If I was to open a new school,would you back me on it?". Thus, Oglethorpe Charter School was born. In 1998, Oglethorpe welcomed its first set of middle schoolers.
