Okkadu was a Telugu film made in the Telugu movie industry, Tollywood. It stars Mahesh Babu, Bhoomika Chawla, and Prakash Raj. It performed strongly at the box-office.
Plot
Ajay, played by Mahesh Babu, is a young Kabbadi player who goes to Kurnool to take part in a match. There, he saves Swapna, Bhoomika, from Obul Reddy, Prakash Raj, who is in love with Bhoomika and wants to marry her against her wishes. Ajay brings Swapna to his house in Hyderabad and decides to send her abroad to save her from Obul Reddy. This is complicated by the fact that Swapna falls in love with Ajay and that Ajay's father is the police inspector in charge of finding Swapna. The movie has Charminar as its integral part. Whether Ajay and Swapna unite is the crux of the story.
Box office
Okkadu was a huge success and brought fame to Mahesh, Bhoomika, Prakash Raj, and the director, Gunasekhar. The movie was remade into Tamil, under the name Ghilli, starring Vijay and Trisha Krishnan, and it went on to become a success as well. The film was made into Kannada too. Raj Kumar Santoshi wanted to remake the movie into hindi with Abhishek Bachchan as the lead. The film is yet to be produced. Okkadu's music is a big plus of the film. The music rocked the charts for a long time, and is still among the favorites of many. Cheppave Chirugaali, Nuvvemaaya Chesavogaani, Hare Rama, and Atharintiki all became super hit songs. Nuvvemaaya introduced Shreya Ghoshal to the Telugu music industry, and catapulted her to fame as well.
