Olivia Mitchell

Olivia Mitchell (born July 311947) is an Irish Fine Gael politician. She is a Teachta Dála (TD) for Dublin South and is currently the Fine Gael spokesperson for Transport.
Olivia Mitchell was born in Birr, County Offaly. She was educated locally and at Trinity College Dublin where she qualified with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Politics. She first became involved in politics in 1985 when she was elected to Dublin County Council. She served on that authority until 2003.
Mitchell was first elected to Dáil Éireann at the 1997 general election, and was returned to the 29th Dáil at the 2002 general election.
In 2001 she received her first Front Bench position as Spokesperson on Housing & Local Government. She has also served as Opposition Spokesperson on Health & Children (2002-2004). In Enda Kenny's reshuffle in 2004 she took on the Transport portfolio.
Mahon Tribunal
Michael Smith, a witness on July 13 to the Mahon Tribunal segment dealing with payments by Monarch Properties to politicians disclosed that Mitchell hugged a Monarch executive after the final crucial vote on the zoning of the Monarch site at Cherrywood by Dublin County Council in 1993. When Smith teased Mitchell at the time about this with the comment Oh kissy, kissy with one of the developers, Mitchell responded Lucky you don't have a camera.
