Ollamh Fodhla
Encyclopedia : O : OL : OLL : Ollamh Fodhla
Ollamh Fodhla, son of Fiacha Finscothach, was a legendary High King of Ireland. His given name was Eochaid, and he was called Ollamh Fodhla because he was a learned ollamh (master, professor) and the king of Fodla, a poetic term for Ireland.
Eochaidh became high-king in 633 B.C.
He established the Festival of Tara, which was an assembly of nobles and learned men held every three years at Samhain to make laws, approve the annals of Ireland, and punish criminals. The assembly was preceded by a feast lasting six days.
