One-sided overhand bend
Encyclopedia : O : ON : ONE : One-sided overhand bend
A one-sided overhand bend is a simple method of joining two cords or threads together. Use it at the end of a double cord when hand sewing to prevent the cord from pulling through the material as you sew. This knot is used (with long tails!) in rock climbing, for attaching two ropes together for a rappel. Climbers often refer to it as the European death knot. Though it is not a strong bend, it is easy to tie, and it pulls over edges more easily than other knots, reducing the chance of a stuck rope.
