The Opel Speedster was a roadster produced from 2001 to 2005 by Lotus for General Motors's subsidiary Opel and was also badged as Vauxhall VX220 for the UK market. Both cars have a lot in common with the Lotus Elise and they are characterized by strong performance and superb handling.

Since the beginning of their production Speedster and VX220 were powered by GM's 2.2 L 16-valve Ecotec L61 engine producing 147 hp ECE (108 kW). Since 2003, they are also available with a 2.0 L turbocharged version of this engine producing 200 hp ECE (147 kW). The turbo version is able to reach the top speed of 242 km/h (151 mph) and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds.

The car was featured in the computer driving simulation: Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2.
