Oprtalj is a town and municipality in Istria, Croatia.
Oprtalj represents a tourist attraction due to its various cultural and historical heritage as well as its rich flora and fauna. The region of Oprtalj is famous for a very rare and delicious mushroom species - truffles. The truffle gatherers look for the mushrooms in the autumn, assisted by well-trained dogs who try to locate them under the ground in the forested region of the Mirna valley and hilly northern parts of Oprtalj.
Truffles are served in the restaurants in the nearby villages (Oprtalj, Livade, Gradinje, Grožnjan, Momjan, etc.). Hunting is another tourist attraction of the region. Oprtalj has Huntsmen's Society "Wild Boar", managing a hunting area of around 45 square kilometres. High game is a chief target here - roe deer, wild boar, etc. Pheasants are also bred.
