Order of British Columbia

The Order of British Columbia is British Columbia's highest award for outstanding achievement. Established by statute in 1989 the award is appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia based on recommendations from an advisory council.
The advisory council includes:
- The Chief Justice of British Columbia (Chair)
- The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly
- A President, in turn, of one of British Columbia's Public Universities, for a two-year term
- The President of the Union of B.C. Municipalities
- The Deputy Minister responsible for the Order of British Columbia
- Two past recipients of the Order
- Bryan Adams (1990) Grammy Award winning musician and photographer
- Dr. Geoffrey Ballard (2003)
- Henry Pybus Bell-Irving (1990)
- Frank Arthur Calder (2004)
- Raffi Cavoukian (2001)
- Iona Campagnolo (1998)
- Lori Fung (1990)
- Garde Gardom (2002)
- Douglas Jung (1997)
- Diana Krall (2000)
- Trevor Linden (2003)
- Sarah McLachlan (2001) musician, singer and songwriter
- Mavor Moore (1999)
- Derek Porter (1996)
- Ernest Smith (2002) - Was the last living Canadian recipient of the Victoria Cross (d.2005)
- David Suzuki (1995) environmentalist and television personality
- Peter Wing (1990)
