Order of the Engineer

The Order of the Engineer is a professional organization for engineers in North America which concentrates on professional ethics. It is introduced in the 1960's in Ohio, and modelled after a Canadian ceremony, The Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer.
Before joining, members must give an oath to abide by a code of ethics called [The Obligation of an Engineer]. Members are given a stainless steel ring called the Engineer's Ring that is to be worn on the little finger of the working hand. This is similar to, but not the same as, the Iron Ring, which is copyrighted and restricted to Canadian ceremonies.
Although most states have universities that host the Order of the Engineer, the number of American engineers who have participated in this ceremony remains relatively small.
