Ori technology
Encyclopedia : O : OR : ORI : Ori technology
- This article provides a more exhaustive list of the fictional technologies used by the Ori race in the Stargate universe.
- For a listing of just their more prominent technologies see the main technology article.
As a body, the Ori are completely Ascended, and they often use this to further enhance the effects of their technology. Overall, all of their efforts, including their technology, are for the purpose of garnering worshippers. For every person who donates his or her free will to the Ori, via an extremely complex metaphysical process, the Ori gain power, and hope to wipe out the Ancients.
Orbital energy cannon
The designs were provided by a Prior to the government of the Rand Protectorate on Tegalus to destroy their traditional rivals, the Caledonian Federation, in exchange for the official conversion of Rand to Origin. The Rand government accepted. It was used in the apocalyptic war that presumably destroyed civilization on Tegalus. It is the only known weapon (other than perhaps an Ancient Drone) that can penetrate the Prometheus' Asgard shields without any apparent loss of power. The design was thought to be inefficient (either intentionally or due to Rand's primitive technology) which would have resulted in a slow power up taking several minutes during which a powerful shield would be projected to defend the satellite weapon. The Prometheus was destroyed later as a result ("Ethon").
Ori battlecruiser
These massive, ellipse-shaped ships form the bulk of the Ori follower's space fleet. Within the empty space in the middle of the ship is a giant ring. This ring holds a semi-transparent orb of energy. This orb is generated by a Prior when the ship is activated, and is the source of the ship's power. The vessel easily outmasses an Asgard battlecruiser, and has enough firepower to cut through the shields of a Goa'uld Ha'tak and destroy it in one burst from its main cannon. In addition to the massive main cannon, the ship is also equipped with rapid-fire pulse cannons. A single burst of one of these cannons also appears to be able to destroy a Ha'tak. The Ori battlecruiser is superior to any ship the SGC has encountered so far.
It should also be noted that in the StarGate Universe, the overall efficiency of any energy shield or blast (and possibly any other essentially 'pure' energy devices) appears to be indicated by the color of the projection, with White being the 'perfected' level. While the Asgard technology seems to be closer than any other in the Milky Way galaxy, the almost pure-white nature of the weapons mounted on the Ori BattleCruisers would suggest that their technology is vastly more powerful than anything held by the known races (this would explain why even the Jack O'Neill-class Asgard ship sent to help guard the Supergate had relatively little success in actually damaging the incoming cruisers).
Ori staff weapon
The standard-issue weapon of the Ori army, this staff weapon is a metallic device with a forked end and is slightly smaller than a Jaffa staff. Blasts of coherent, blue-white energy are projected from one end, and have an equivalent if not greater output than a Jaffa staff weapon.
It is possible that the Goa'uld staff weapons origins come from this weapon as the Goa'uld were known scavengers of Ancient technology.
In addition, as mentioned in the above article on the Ori Battlecruisers, the lighter the color of energy used in a weapon such as a staff, the more powerful it seems to be; the Goa'uld staff weapons fire bursts of orange plasma, as opposed to the blue-white nature of the Ori weapons. This is further evidence for the idea that the Ori soldiers are outfitted with near-'perfect' equipment, especially in comparison to the relatively backward (albeit highly effective, at least in almost all previous situations) weaponry of most of the races in the Milky Way (and also the Asgard, although to a distinctly lesser degree).
Ori Stunner
The Ori also have small, wrist-mounted weapons that act in a similar fashion to Zats in the fact that they are non-lethal. They fire blue-white energy similar to that the Ori staff weapons fire, though it has far less potency. Unlike Zats though, it is far more portable, and takes several shots in order to kill a person.Ori ring transporter
See the main entry under Ancient Technology. Ring transporters were apparently invented by the Ancients who were once united with Ori under the name of the Alterans. The Ori rings are of a different design but function the same way.
The \"Supergate\"
This is a Stargate-like device built out of eighty smaller devices. These devices are about four meters wide and ten meters long, the perfect size to fit through the Stargate. The second Supergate appears to be considerably larger than the first - when Lt. Col. Carter beams out to a segment of the second it appears (when compared to her) to be more than 50 metres wide and over a hundred or metres long - far too big for a stargate. Once through the gate, they arrange themselves in a circle in orbit around the planet, creating a giant gate hundreds of meters in diameter, large enough to fit entire fleets through. However, the power requirements for this are immense, requiring that the planet and the Stargate on it to be turned into a quantum singularity in order to provide the intense gravitational energy necessary to feed the Supergate. The first instance of a Supergate was seen in the episode "Beachhead" but was prevented from fully forming by Vala.
The Supergate's individual blocks are like nigh-indestructible missiles, capable of destroying or severely damaging Ha'tak motherships and the Prometheus even with shields at maximum.
Shields
The Ori are able to create shields which cannot be overpowered. These shields actually absorb any energy hitting them, using it as a source of power. This was shown in Beachhead.Ori Fighter
Much like the ships of Earth and Ha'tak mother ships the Ori ships carry smaller fighters, these were seen engaging Death Gliders over Chulak. The fighters are smaller than Al'kesh but larger than Gliders and are vaguely arrow shaped. They appeared to take little or no casualties from the Al'kesh and gliders they were engaging. Presumably given the number of craft that they engaged, quite a lot of weapons fire was sure to be hitting them. So it is reasonable to assume that they possess sheilding of superior design.
