Otesánek, also known as Little Otik or Greedy Guts, is a 2000 film by Czech couple Jan Švankmajer and Eva Švankmajerová. The movie is a surreal-comedic live action/stop motion-animated feature film set mainly in a poor apartment building in the Czech Republic.
Story
Karel Horák and Božena Horáková find out that they can't conceive a child, so instead they raise a tree stump in the shape of a baby named Otík. One day, when Božena returns home, she finds that Otík has eaten their cat to the bone. The baby later consumes a postal worker and then a social worker. The resulting deaths led Karel to tie up and lock away Otík in the basement of their apartment building in which Alžbětka, the neighbor's daughter, takes over as prime caretaker in secret. Alžbětka tries to keep Otík fed with normal human food, but it doesn't satisfy him enough. Eventually she begins drawing straws (or matches in this case) to choose a person to feed to Otík; the first being an old man, Mr. Žlábek and then Karel himself. Eventually in the end, Otík is killed by paní správcová (=porter's wife, an old woman) through the use of a hoe to cut open his stomach.Trivia
An animated version of the same story formed the basis of the video for "Ripen", a single of 2003 by The Mountaineers.
