Ottapalam is a town in Palakkad district of Kerala state, south India. Situated on the banks of the Bharathapuzha (Nila) river, Ottapalam has a rich cultural heritage and have hosted many historic events.

Killikkurussimangalam, Lakkidi, birthplace of Kerala's famous poet and father of the traditional solo dance, Ottamthullal, Sri Kunjan Nambiar, is 8 kilometers away from Ottapalam. The renowned Koodiyattam artist late Padma Shri Mani Madhava Chakyar's house is also at Killikkurussimangalam, Lakkidi.

KPS Menon, India's first foreign secretory was born in Ottapalam. Mr. Menon served pre-independence India as a Agent-General to China as well.

Kerala Kalamandalam school teaching Kerala's own traditional art forms, is located in Cheruthuruthy, a few kilometers away from Ottapalam. Founded in 1927 by the revered poet Vallathol, Kerala Kalamandalam excels in training various forms of Kathakali, Koodiyattam, Mohiniyattam and other indigenous performing arts. These art forms are performed in traditional theatres attached to temples, known as Koothambalams.

Recently Ottapalam is a popular location for Malayalam and Tamil movies productions.
