Out of the Cellar

Encyclopedia : O : OU : OUT : Out of the Cellar

Out of the Cellar is the breakthrough album by glam metal band Ratt, released in 1984 (see 1984 in music). It was produced by Beau Hill. Featuring their best-known hit, "Round and Round", and other hits such as "Wanted Man", "Back for More", "I'm Insane", and "Lack of Communication". Out of the Cellar was a spectacular popular success, through critical praise was limited. The band's pop sensibilities were apparent, but many felt that there was little more to Ratt's sound than catchy choruses. Fans not only consider this to be the best material Ratt have done to this day, but it is also considered a glam metal classic. It is an RIAA certified Triple Platinum album.

The model on the album cover is Tawny Kitaen, better known for her appearances in Whitesnake music videos.

In 2003 [Metal-Rules.com] named "Out of the Cellar" number 3 of their "Top 50 Glam Metal Albums".[Metal-Rules.com "Top 50 Glam Metal Albums"] They also named it number 67 of their "Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums of All Time".["The Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums"]

Album title

Many fans believe the album's title might resemble a loose connection to Aerosmith song "Rat's in the Cellar" on their 1976 album Rocks. Because of this it had fueled speculation over the years that Aerosmith was Ratt's primary influence.

Another theory about this would be that this was Ratt's major label debut and the fact that rats live in cellars and Ratt was an "underground" band until 1984, the year this album was released. The album's title might have been intended to compare cellar to underground, therefore the title "Out of the Cellar".
