Outstanding Miniseries
Encyclopedia : O : OU : OUT : Outstanding Miniseries
The Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries is the most prestigious of all the awards annually presented. It represents excellence in the category of miniseries that are considered either six hours or more, or more than two parts.
What has been unique about this award in recent years is that there almost always has been at least one nominee that is a British miniseries (originating from Great Britain). For example, the 2005 winner was The Lost Prince, which happened to be that year's British entry.
Some fans have taken British wins to be a reflection on the quality of recent American television miniseries.
Here is a partial list of winners in the Outstanding Miniseries category:
- 2000 – The Corner (HBO)
- 2001 – Anne Frank (ABC)
- 2002 – Band of Brothers (HBO)
- 2003 – Steven Spielberg Presents Taken (Sci-Fi)
- 2004 – Angels in America (HBO)
- 2005 – The Lost Prince (BBC, distributed in the U.S. by PBS)
