PR0

Encyclopedia : P : PR : PR0 : PR0

PR0 indicates a PageRank of zero (out of a maximum of ten) on the Google search engine. This is something to be avoided in gaining a good Google ranking. Google sometimes impose this as a penalty on websites that try to boost their ranking artificially through unethical such as link farming means as part of their search engine optimization.

Newly registered domains are automatically assigned PR0 and will stay that way until other websites begin to link to them - this helps increase their PageRank and also encourages the Google Web Crawler to index the site's pages more often.

Some webmasters will intentionally strive to keep some of their pages at PR0 so that they never get indexed. Common examples include restricted areas of their website that require a user login and web pages that are accessed over a secure connection (Https).
