Known as "PTT", or "批踢踢" in Chinese, its full English name "Professional Technology Temple" is known by few. It boasts as the largest active BBS in Taiwan. With more than 1,200,000 registered users not including guest users, tens of thousands of people are online at any given time, more than 61,000 concurrent users for a single machine. Established on September 14, 1995 in National Taiwan University by Yi-Chin Tu, (ID: ptt), its member base has since expanded, with rapid growth seen in recent years.

Valued for its wealth of information, and the possibility to exchange information with its large member base, it's popular mainly among students. This telneted based system is also become a trend in greater China.

Because it runs on resources provided by the Ministry of Education for academic purposes, certain levels of regulation applies. For instance, pornography is strictly forbidden. Yet it also prides itself for allowing freedom of speech.

PTT also refers to Push to Talk, see PoC
