País LLïonés
Encyclopedia : P : PA : PAS : País LLïonés
According to some secesionist parties which call for its independence from Spain (such as Conceyu Xoven) the País LLïonés or Leonese Country would encompass roughly the current Spanish provinces of León, Salamanca and Zamora (all of them in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León) as well as parts of northeastern Portugal in Bragança. Its capital would be the city of León, now capital of the homonym province.
The País LLïonés is inspired on the Kingdom of León, but it is worth to note that it does't claim the northern part of the ancient Kingdom, the Principality of Asturias, now an autonomous community of its own within Spain. Although the majority of the population speak Spanish, the independentists promote the use of the almost extinguished Astur-Leonese language, which they call simply LLïonés or Leonese.
The proposed flag for this country is the current flag of the province of León, red with the Leonese shield in the centre (on a white background a crowned red lion) surmounted by a crown.
