Pad or PAD can be either a word, an alias or a three letter acronym:

• as a word

• *Protective gear:
• **Elbow pads
• **Hip pads
• **Knee pads
• **Shoulder pads.
• * In electronic music, a sound (timbre), which can be used to produce soft, imperceptible harmonic background. The most common (almost standard) types of pads or synth pads are: choir pad, string instruments, warm pad, etc.
• * An abbreviation for maxi pad, sanitary napkin (US), or "towel" (UK).
• * One of the transliterations of the fourth syllable in the Buddhist "six syllable mantra": Om mani padme hum.
• * In rocketry, pad is short for launch pad, the platform from which an orbital vehicle is launched.
• * Pad: As part of animal paw.
• * A pad on which helicopters land is called a Helipad.
• * A term for a tablet of paper, and from this, in computing, word-processing programs such as Notepad and WordPad.
• * A mat used in computing to place a mouse upon, namely, a mousepad.
• * In electronics, a flat surface used to make electrical contact. A special case is bonding pads, to which components are soldered.
• * A bachelor pad.
• * The PAD control character in the C1 control code set.
• * A part of the ethernet frame that fills in the data field (if necessary) to ensure that it meets the minimum length (46 bytes). For this reason, the data field is often called the "Data/Pad" field.
