Dr Pamela C. Rasmussen is a prominent American ornithologist and expert on Asian birds. She is based at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C..

She has described four new species of birds, including a Bradypterus bush warbler from Taiwan, the Nicobar Scops Owl, Otus alius and the Sangihe Scops Owl Otus collari. She rediscovered the Forest Owlet Athene blewitti, and identified the Cinnabar Hawk Owl Ninox ios.

Most recently, she confirmed the identity of the recently discovered Sri Lankan Serendib Scops Owl originally found by Deepal Warakagoda. Dr Rasmussen also identified fraud perpetrated by the eminent British soldier and ornithologist, Colonel Richard Meinertzhagen.

Along with artist John Anderton, she is the author of, The Birds of South Asia - the Ripley guide (ISBN 8487334679), a two volume bird guide for the Indian Subcontinent which is the first field guide for the area to include Sonograms.
